CREATIVE TALENT + 7 CWTS2014 ENTRIES

Hey guys, it's me, that girl katie, If you have been following along then you already know I entered my Map It Out Desk into a contest. There are so many talented people who also entered a DIY project.

I spent part of my morning checking out all the other entries and choose 6 that I could really see myself re-creating and 1 that is a dream.

Blog links and why I choose these projects:

1. Union Jack Coffee Table from, Magic City Thistle - I have a stool that I have wanted to do something like this to for many years.

2. Farmhouse Light from, The Wood Grain Cottage - I spent 3 months in Bali and always thought the rooster baskets would make the coolest Lamp Pendent and this reminded me of that.

3. Picture Collage from, TwoZeroOne - I would love to do this someday with pictures from camping trips but right now we don't have an empty wall.

4. Concerte Floor from, Wills Casa - I love graphic floors, rugs & walls. Here is my chevron rug video I produced. Maybe I should paint our garage floor next?

5. Rustic Headboard from, Chic On A Shoestring Decorating - Making a headboard has been on my "to do" list for my sons bedroom.

6. Play Kitchen from, Southern Revivals - I want to cook in this kitchen. Creating something like this for my kids and their friends would be so fulfilling to make and even more fun watching them play with it.

7. Backyard Workspace from, Kruses Workshop - A studio space separated from the house is a big dream of mine.

IT TAKES A VILLAGE - CWTS2014 CONTEST

Hey, it’s me, that girl katie, I entered this contest and the saying "it takes a village" sure does seem fitting.

I submitted my DIY “Map It Out Desk” that I posted last summer. CLICK HERE if you missed the link on the project.

One of the requirements for entry into the contest is getting followers to LIKE, PIN and SHARE your project. Easy right? Well, not really. I know everyone is busy and given free time one probably wants to spend it relaxing, spending more time with your kids or more importantly supporting all your loved ones who are fighting the cancer fight. But we all need to LIVE our DREAMS and this is me pursing one of my dreams.

3 Reasons I entered this contest? 1st - To be creative 2nd - Make contacts with other creative and inspiring individuals. 3rd - To gain recognition = gaining more followers

I struggle with the follower aspect because I am not a marketing person. Once I finish a project I want to start working on the next project. Spending time marketing just isn’t my thing but I know that I need to get better with it.

PLAYROOM + GUESTROOM = FUN ROOM

Hey guys, it's me, that girl katie, I gladly offered to help a friend with her Playroom/Guestroom space.

I came up with a bold and playful design that is both practical and affordable. It is a style that won't become outdated as their young kids grow and can sleep a large visiting family or host future slumber parties. It is a room that has fun written all over it.

MY HOME DESIGN & UPDATING PLANS

Hey guys, it’s me, that girl katie, I can’t believe it’s the end of February. I am constantly surprised with how fast time is flying by. I wonder if I had more time, would I sit and relax? Probably not! So, I am realizing that busy is great even if I can’t get everything I would like accomplished in a day. I often remind myself to keep moving forward and some days it sure feels faster and greater than others.

I thought I would show you a few rooms I am designing and updating in my house.

1. Husbands Home Office:

The plan here is too build and L shaped desk that will go against the right wall opening up the room. It will also hide all the computer wires and the backside of the monitors, yeah. I had other ideas but this is what we finally compromised on.

I am also going to install an accent wall on the back. I have samples coming for this and I can’t wait for them to arrive.

Buy rug(s), office organizational supplies, a small chair and other accessories to complete the space.

2. Basement Media Room

We have lived in our house for 3 ½ years and have never decorated this space. It has become an over flow of items and an extension of the playroom.

Can you see I have marked out possible furniture plan? This really helps me visualize the plan but I know I still need to sketch it out.

I have some great ideas that I can’t wait to share, accent wall, cozy furniture plus more.

3. Kids Playroom

My kids never really use their basement playroom for several reasons. 1.) with the great outdoors in our backyard there is a lot to explore here. 2.) when we are home, the kids want to be where we are, in the kitchen/living area. So, I am turning the playroom into an art studio. I am guessing since I will be there a lot they will too. This might be the new favorite hot spot in the house.

4. Backyard and Deck

With the current snow condition of the yard and deck this will be the biggest transformation. 1st up, snow needs to melt.

We are adding more plants & trees but the main thing we are updating is the deck. We are incorporating more seating & a new table and chairs that will seat 10. Hello summer dinner parties!

We will add a new grill too. Don’t you think this one might be on its last leg? My husband purchased this on “trash and treasure” 5 years ago & it has been a real gem despite its appearance. We have definitely gotten our $20 worth out of this grill. And in some weird way I will be sad to see it leave but I bet he has plans for it somewhere.

I imagine all these rooms will start to come together this summer. Yep, the reality is designing takes time. It’s not like a 30 min decorating show unless you can channel your inner Samantha Stevens aka Bewitched.

So, be sure to check back in to see the process and the final reveal.
